COUNTER-TERRORISM COMMITTEE

“If we destroy human rights and rule of law in the response to terrorism, they have won.” - Joichi Ito

Dearest delegates,

It is with distinct honor and pleasure that I welcome you to the Counter Terrorism Committee of the Washington Academy Model of the United Nations (WAMUN) 2016. My name is Annelies Smilde and I will be your chair in this year’s conference alongside the esteemed Luis De Zabala as Co-Chair and Helena Núñez as Secretary. We hope you are as enthusiastic as we are to be part of this committee.

Even though you have been presented with what seems to be a single topic, the committee will be discussing this topic regarding each case, on at a time, as to assess the adversities each case develops. Through the assertion of this broader topic within two specific cases, together, we will face the Terrorism in Africa in all of its nuances and variations. You must surely find solutions relating to the nature of the Committee, ergo none of them shall disrespect the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and any military action must undergo revision from the Security Council in order to be approved. It is important that you take into account the urgency of each of these cases as framed in this topic; each case must be properly tackled and solved with accurate decisions under the form of debates, and action plans. It must also be kept in mind that by the end of the committee there must be a resolution to this topic, which meets all that was discussed and solved for cases II and I. We strongly encourage you to take every detail into account in order for the debate to be as fluid and prosperous as possible.

Without further ado, we are looking forward to meet each and every one of you in WAMUN 2016.

If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to submit them. Please contact us at wamun2016@gmail.com or anneliesmilde@hotmail.com.
