HISTORICAL

SECURITY COUNCIL

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to WAMUN 2016, I am pleased to have you with us. The team has worked arduously to get where we are, and we hope you have done your work too with the means of impressing us, and having an unforgettable weekend. Remember why we, participants of UN Models, love this activity: it develops plenty of skills that come in handy in the course of your life; it opens your mind to the world you inhabit and the problems that it faces, making you think of creative solutions to address it; and enhances leadership and negotiation. More than an activity, it is a passion, a commitment, and something we enjoy. I hope nothing different from this weekend, except for one little detail; this is not a welcome to 2016, but a welcome back to the 1970’s.

We will be discussing events from this wonderful yet complex decade, where each one of you will have the power to alter the course of history, according to the observations of your country in this historical period. We are giving you a turning point of three events of the decade, and from that moment on; the pen is in your hands to write the book of history. You may create a nation, mark new frontiers, and send investigation troops; always with the intention and finality of the Security Council: maintaining the international peace and security.

Your staff members are, myself, Vera Colmenter, as Chair; Andrew Ruozzi as Co-Chair and Daniel Morales Bello as your secretary. In company of our great admins we will be your guidance, your family for a weekend. We could not be happier to have you with us and hope you are too. WAMUN has always been a wonderful experience where the delegates are able to lead the debate of the committee in an extraordinary way, with insightful research on the chosen topics. Even though these booklets will give the delegates a summary of the pressing issues, the chair highly encourages delegates to conduct further independent research. We hope that your WAMUN experience as delegates will be as rewarding as it will be for us as Chairs. All of us have experienced the thrill of participating in a Models United Nations; we know how it feels like to be in your position as a delegate, so we encourage you to take the most advantage out of it: investigate, participate actively, learn, and above all, enjoy this wonderful experience.

Sincerely,

Vera Colmenter,

Chair, Historical Security Council
